Course Outline
Upon completing this course, the learner will be able to meet these overall objectives:

  • Performs core system administration responsibilities involving local storage, partitioning, starting and stopping services, file systems, and users. The Performance-based evaluation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administration skills and knowledge. Candidates perform a number of routine system administration tasks and are evaluated on whether they have met specific objective criteria.

  • Understand and use essential tools for handling files, directories, command-line environments, and documentation
  • Operate running systems, including booting into different run levels, identifying processes, starting and stopping virtual machines, and controlling services
  • Configure local storage using partitions and logical volumes
  • Create and configure file systems and file system attributes, such as permissions, encryption, access control lists, and network file systems
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain systems, including software installation, update, and core services
  • Manage users and groups, including use of a centralized directory for authentication
  • Manage security, including basic firewall and SELinux configuration
  • Manage users and groups
  • Configure firewall settings using firewall-config, firewall-cmd, or iptables
  • Configure a system to use an existing authentication service for user and group information
  • Install and update software packages from Red Hat Network, a remote repository, or from the local file system
